Calgary 2005 Overview
You may recall that Roger is part of the judging program in the barbershop singing society and travels across the continent "judging" several contests each year. In 1993, Roger was on the judging panel and sang in the International Barbershop Singing Convention. We enjoyed the area so much that we wanted to go back. This year we were fortunate to be invited back to Calgary to judge the Evergreen District Fall Contest. So on Thursday & Friday, September 30 & October 1, we were entertained by 14 choruses & 24 quartets from the upper northwest. A good time was had renewing friendships from among our friends in Evergreen as well as folks on the judging team from several other areas.
Then Sunday we rented a Hertz car and drove into the Canadian Rockies. Our vacation itinerary was:
- Sunday: we drove to Banff where we visited the famous Banff Chateau Resort
- Monday: we drove the beautiful mountain-landscaped highway to Jasper. On the way we toured the Athabasca Glacier where we rode in a large vehicle out onto the glacier and walked on the ice
- Tuesday: on our way back to Lake Louise along the same beautiful "Alps of North America" highway, we stopped to view the beautiful Athabasca Falls. Later we stopped to tour the magnificent Lake Louise Chateau Resort.
- Wednesday: we toured the sulfur springs bath in Banff and on our way back to Calgary we visited the site of the 1988 Winter Olympics. We stayed overnight at a hotel near the airport.
- Thursday: flew home
