Lake Louise & Trains
Lake Louise is a absolute "must-see", and can be seen even if you cannot take time to go to Jasper. I think it is about 2 hours from Calgary, and only about 4 miles off the highway, on a good road. The lake is really this emerald color, and the hotel here is too expensive, but they truly welcome visitors to walk through, perhaps have a snack or a meal, or buy a souvenir. This is our second visit and we are not sorry we did it again.
Here we are, right beside water's edge. That is another glacier behind us. Again, it was a little chilly, but there was no wind. Our friends from Washington just happened to be there and they took this picture.
Roger, inside the new annex. It is one awesome, beautiful area after another.
With fog in the mountain tops, the creek is between the parking lot and the hotel. What is seen here is the "old" part of the Lake Louise Chateau Fairmont Hotel, which as you see, is very picturesque.
Roger, just steps away from the creek, showing much of the exterior. Shops in the lower center area, connect the old and the new, which is behind him.
Another Lake Louise scene. Peaceful and serene, to say the least. You have to go there!
Roger inside the older part of the hotel. He was looking at the lake. I think it is supposed to be like a French Chateau.
Outdoors again, on the "porch" of the new part: the lake in the distance. Kinda "European", and calm, and beautiful, beyond description.
Roger on that same "porch", this time the camera swung to the right.
==========
And now, on the the historic Lake Louise train depot. This was down the hill, "toward civilization", about 3 miles from the lake itself.
The owners preparing for winter, this century old depot is open for business as a restaurant. Note the original logs, and the fine leaded window.
This hand carved sign was nice.
Roger inside. Between meals, tables are set for lunch. The working fireplace was of course the original source of heat.
Outdoors again, the sign for the approaching trains. The seamless track was just barely visible beyond.
As an annex for summer dining, were two restored vintage train dining cars.
