Banff & Jasper

Banff is a famous and quaint little tourist town, not far into the mountains as you approach from Calgary. It prides itself in having the best down-hill skiing in all of North America; and this is where the 1988 (?) winter Olympics were held (also at Calgary and environs). Since we visited here before, we decided to not take the mountain cable tram. But it is recommended, so as to have a close-up encounter with mountain sheep, as well as a panoramic view. But we stayed below this time, so this is some of what we saw.

The famous mountain scene on main street of Banff.

From our hotel, this is our view at sunset. Main street is a few block long and there are mostly gift shops and restaurants.

Another section of main street.

At the famous sulfur hot springs, it is dark indoors at this historic site, the area of which is the first Canadian national park.

One last look at that mountain in Banff, with the clouds a little higher than in other pictures.   There are a few photos taken at the big hotel, in another section of this review.

=======================

The following is Jasper: another little town, even smaller. This is at the far end of our route for this vacation.

Driving into town at Jasper, which is only a few thousand people. As always, we were surrounded by mountains.

The active train depot of Jasper.

Roger at the sign. Since everything is kilometers, I do not know what the "m" on the sign means. Might be miles, I guess. But why?

Vintage posters on the wall indoors. One was almost a hundred years old.

Another indoor shot of this working depot.

Outdoors, a historic steam engine stand testament to previous working days.

Across the street from the station in Jasper, we see typical shops and restaurants.
