Mountains
The Canadian Rockies are breathtaking. There are not words to describe the splendor to be beheld just around every bend, for mile after mile. We took 1,400 photos and tried to whittle them down to a few to share.
Having just left Calgary on the only freeway going west, the mountains become visible in the distance. It took about one hour to get there, and about another half hour to reach Banff.
As we get closer to the first mountain range, the magnificence begins to ramp up.
Wow! (We said that a lot.)
Always looking for a curving road, water, fall color, and mountains all in one scene! This time we captured it.
Early on the second day, rising out of the morning mist, Castle Mountain was in view for a long time. It looked to me like a humongous ghost-ship hovering over all. What we really saw was much more remarkable than this picture.
Along the road to Jasper, snow had just fallen, producing this mountain winter landscape.
Just a little bit later, this scene presented itself.
At one of the higher passes, still some distance before the Jasper Ice Fields.
This is the road upon which we had just driven. We were at a viewing site near where the previous photo was taken.
Mt. Robson near Jasper. See also, the little lake to the right.
Between Jasper and the Ice Fields, Roger at Athabasca Pass. The grandeur was stupendous, and the photo does not do it justice.
