Day 5 - Thursday, February 5
Didn't get up early this morning - slept in till about 8. When Roger went jogging then, we were in port with three other cruise ships parked beside us - just like cord wood. The other 2 islands (Hispaniola & Jamaica) were quite mountainous. Grand Cayman is absolutely flat with a mean elevation of about 6' above sea level. Sure different.
Roger went snorkeling today with Jim & Diane and Theresa stayed on the ship - tenders to shore are just too hard with the wheelchair. In spite of sunscreen Roger got burned .
Had 2 snorkeling sessions. First we snorkeled with the sting rays. Really interesting and beautiful fish. Got to touch them and feed them. Saw big ones and small ones. All were within 6 feet of us. But there were about 100 people doing it at one time and things got a bit crowded... for us and the fish!
Then we moved to a different location and snorkeled the coral reef - saw lots and lots of different coral and lots of different colored fish. My underwater camera worked great and should have some pictures after we get the film developed. I had purchased an underwater camera, so we won't have those pictures for some time.
This evening's dinner with Jim & Diane and John & Una was delicious as always. We are getting a lot of professional pictures and will share some of them later.
Then we went to the evening's show production called Broadway's Rhythm & Rhyme song and dance. They weren't very true to the original music and the show was a bit disappointing. as they all have been. I think they all have the same artistic director and she or he needs to be replaced. Loud to the point of causing pain. ETC.!
To show you how small a world it is, while (Jim & Diane &) Roger was shopping in Grand Cayman, waiting to go snorkeling, he ran into a fellow barbershop singing judge from Lexington, Kentucky: Ernie Nickoson. They chatted for a while. Ernie and his wife were from one of the other cruise ships in the harbor having sailed out of New Orleans after the Mid-Winter barbershop singing convention in Biloxi during the last week of January.
More tomorrow.
Taken from our balcony, Roger, Diane & Jim waving from the tender that took them ashore. The yellow thing blocking part of your view is a life boat.
Swimming pool area - more than a dozen pools on ship.
John & Una with Roger & Theresa on dining room grand staircase.
