Day 3: Wednesday, February 2, 2005

Our daily journal is after the pictures.

Just outside the spa pool, overlooking the gardens.

Theresa behind the "waterfall" of the cross current pool.

One prime example of arches: this one is the driveway of the convention center to which we came daily to send Emails. We just loved the feel of Spanish history, as in the US Southwest.

This is the open air-indoor central atrium of our lobby area, one of two main lobbies on the large campus.

The other one was similar, but covered.  This one was prettier but a bit less convenient if you did not want a sunburn or to get wet in rain. But it really did not matter since it was surrounded by a wide covered walkway.

One example of greenery outside.

Roger at the very good Mexican Restaurant. All the conventional things; plus a delicious, non spicy, juicy  sea bass for Theresa.

Daily Journal

Roger got up early again and jogged around the complex for about 3 miles. Very interesting flora and fauna. Lots of tropical plants and well manicured shrubs and lawns and trees. Some flowers on plants, shrubs, and even trees - bright colored flowers, like orange rhododenrons. Lots of cocoanut palms. the workers in one instance were actually cutting off cocoanuts - we have had desserts and other foods with coconut... Birds have very unusual call - a high pitched call. Have seen something looking like a magpie (?); also a bright orange "oriel", many caged parakeets which get moved from location to location in the hotel; etc. And didn't see any iguanas this morning. But did see frigate birds soaring, and also pelicans.

Continental breakfast in our room again. Both the fresh pineapple and orange juice are very sweet: no acid. We think that's because they're tree ripened. (We had run into sweet orange juice before, when we lived in San Diego and picked our own tree-ripened oranges.)

OK, now this is Theresa. It is now obvious that we are not in USA. Although everybody is very nice, and everything is very clean and beautiful, there are a lot of little things which would not be up to code in USA (almost no elevators, no escalators, no railings (or very high ones), with many stairs; you have to search for tour info; etc.) Four bouts of intestinal situations for me (not terribly serious as of now, but enough to make me want to eat very carefully... which I thought we were a bit selective already... and now we have a flood in our room from the neighbors jacuzzi. ETC... "big etc."

==It is now almost time for our evening meal and I my insides  have simmered down in many ways... but Roger has a bit of an intestinal deal... not too bad (more than you want to know).

We went into a lovely "cross current pool" this afternoon - seems to be frequented by old people. Four feet deep and a nice way to socialize and to get exercise. Met folks from Bemidji and from Roseville. I was able to put a water proof dressing over the stomach, which made this possible.

It has been cloudy and threatening rain. But not much materialized. Mostly sunny, breezy, and humid enough that even swimming suits do not totally dry in the room overnight. But it is nice to have sinus problems from MN winter "evaporate".

We have a bit of a beef with the travel agent-both back home and the rep here (who has been off duty-now taking a new job; so I guess we will probably "converse" with the agent back home later... We paid for things not delivered and can't get other outings without spending big bucks. But it will be OK.
Getting two miles of walking /strolling exercise daily (Roger, more, with his run) in beautiful surroundings; taking shuttle bus at times when it is hot.

More tomorrow.
