Day 2: Tuesday, February 1, 2005

Our daily journal is after the pictures

Roger is one of our many thatched roofed restaurants overlooking the ocean. The service people all used their best English, saying  "Mrs. Meyer, it is a pleasure to serve you. Enrique will be your server. He will  get your drink order right away." Then she would swish a beautifully folded napkin onto my lap and disappear for the next customer. All food and drink was included in one price. This was a buffet but they also had "sit-down, menu" restaurants, as well as sandwich bars.

Waiter saw me taking the last picture and he offered to take this. It was our first brunch.

To the left in the background is the restaurant we just left. Again, another guest took this.

Later we got into the "cross current pool" made for walking in four feet of water. Theresa swallowed her pride and wore a swimming suit and even went without make up much of the time!

Daily Journal

Roger got up about 6 to set up this system for keeping our trip diary, made a pot of coffee and then went out for a walk. Walked around the whole complex - very large - over 1000 rooms. Came back and had a nice continental breakfast delivered early (7:30) to the room. Then went out for daily jog.

Satellite radio only works if you find the "spot" and then stand still. And our room faces north so it isn't a good "spot." Only 1 FM station and no AM stations in this area. But we have TV with lots of English programs with Mexican subtitles. And I brought a CD with several hours of both "old pop" and classical music that runs on my computer.

Jogged around the perimeter of the "grounds". It is at least a third  mile just to the other lobby, so cannot even imagine how many acres... 300? Saw my first iguana. Rocky beach with lots of man made sandy areas for sun bathing. And several man made lagoons for swimming or (plastic) kayaking.

Spent morning getting bearings on complex's layout and what's where. Had a great breakfast in the Mexican food restaurant. Located the Internet computers. Sent message home (using memory stick to get message from my laptop to Internet computer). Had a great lunch at the Mediterranean restaurant. Back for a nap. Went out and found Mom some hair spray. Read for a while before dinner. And of course did some computer work.

Had a lovely dinner in the "California Light" food restaurant. Very interesting food.

Theresa is still very tired and achy. But enjoying the scenery which make us remember Californian Spanish architecture. And we cannot get over how friendly every one is who works here. I suppose it is partly due to the influx of cash into the area in the past decade. Hopefully we are helping to make some folks a better life.

In the evening we attended the "Hollywood" evening show - 10 dancers dancing to various movies such as Evita, Chicago, etc. Nice show!

Today we're attaching a picture of us in front of the beach and a small portion of the complex. We'll put a lot more pictures on our web site after we get home. But we don't have access here to do that.
