Day 1: Monday, January 31, 2005
Our daily journal is after the pictures.
Champion Air was our airline, out of the newly improved Minneapolis Humphrey Charter Terminal. Friendly people; very nice , very convenient smaller airport. direct flight to destination. One emergency even happened on the way home. A passenger passed out and the flight attendant shouted for medical persons, to which a whole aisle of people responded... a welcome sight. He was given juice and oxygen remained under observation for the remainder of the flight; and was met at the door upon arrivalwith more help.
From our hotel balcony, Roger jogging by as usual first thing every morning.
Theresa at one of many scenic overlooks. It was always this breezy.
A passerby offered to take us together at another vista point.
Roger looking down at the pristine white sandy beach bordering salt water lagoon; that is the ocean (Carribbean Sea) in the "near distance".

Our 4 hour flight from MSP to Cancun left on time and went smoothly, although
both of us went through a thorough metal check at Security in Minneapolis.
Theresa's knee and her snaps on her sweater set things off; Roger's belt buckle
and and telephone set of his. Upon arrival at Cancun airport, everything went
fairly quickly. We had a line to get through Immigration; then a few minutes to
claim our luggage, and then out to a "green shirt guy" who took our luggage and
told us which bus to get onto. The nice, comfortable, quiet and cool bus ride
was about an hour, since we're about 54 miles south of the airport. Theresa was
"beat". Totally tired and could not wait to get to bed. Slept like a rock, not
at all like her.
Our room is quite "Mexican" with tile floor, a very large king sized bed, and a large
jacuzzi. Fortunately, we're on the first floor (so no steps). The huge reception
lobby flows into the other public areas: towering stucco, tile, etc... all open
to the outside, but most areas with roofs as if indoors. It looks as if it has been here
for a long time (well kept-up, tho) and only four years old. Weather was cool,
somewhat humid, and breezy last night (in the low 70's). The help is definitely
Mexican but bilingual, and very friendly and accommodating. Also bathrobes and
towel scupltures greeted us at our personal huge jacuzzi in our room.
We went looking for a snack bar after we got into our room, but it was to long a
walk. So went to bed. There is a stocked little refrigerator in the room
complete with fruit, juices, pop, water, and etc. This morning the waiter is
bringing continental breakfast to begin the day; then we will partake all day
long in one or more of 6 restaurants here.
We have a little balcony with chairs and a hammock; off and on, exotic birds
call, and fly by. Roger went for his morning jog all over the campus; at least a
half mile one way.
