Sarah's Heart Surgery in Rochester

The mother of our two oldest grandchildren, Sarah, had open heart surgery at Mayo in January, '06. Below are a few of the pictures from that significant time.

At the table the night before the surgery, both families gathered together for supper. On the left side of the table:  her sister Debbie, her Dad Duane, her friends Ann, and Todd. Her son Garth at the end end of table, then Sarah, Her daughter Hannah reading the menu, then H & G's Daddy (our son) Dave, Roger, and Sarah's mom, Linda. Her brother and other sister joined the group the next day.  And there were a hundred more with us in spirit. THANKS!

Same group but with Theresa at the table, next to Duane. (Lighting not too good.)

At 5:30 the next morning, we all arrived at the hospital. Pictured here is Sarah with her two kids, all cuddly, not knowing how long before this could happen again.

A typical scene in one of several waiting rooms to which we were periodically ushered. Still before dawn, as you see by the dark windows. Left to right: Debbie, Linda's dark hair (she is looking the other way), Duane talking to Roger across the way, then Hannah doing an electronic game; Dave and Garth with a puzzle. The others went to get coffee. Sister was on the way from Alabama. Brother came in later from the Twin Cities.

Sarah had a good outcome, and a sigh of relief was evident when the surgeon told us the good news. She will always have the heart condition but it will become easier for her to have a fairly normal life. The kids will have their mommy. And the tie between the families is good. Dave has known her brother for decades. (etc.)
