Steam Train Excursions

On a beautiful Saturday & Sunday in early September, Dan & Dawn invited me to travel with them on a steam train excursion trip. We traveled in very old train coaches pulled by a beautiful old steam locomotive. On Saturday, we went out west of the Twin Cities about 100 miles to Glenwood. On Sunday, we went east across the St. Croix River to Dresser, Wisconsin. Below are pictures of our trip. At the end are 2 movies complete with sound which are very large files. Do NOT try to view the movies if you don't have high speed access.

Excursion 7

This is our locomotive, number 2816. For more information, follow this link: http://www.261.com.

Excursion 1

Here I am looking out the side at the locomotive as we travel down the rail. Our speed was as high as 50 mpg. And the chug-a-chug-a of the locomotive is very mesmerizing.

2

I took this picture out the above side door using 4X zoom on my camera. The camera's Image Stabilization feature is really good. This picture would have been a blue with older cameras.

Excursion 3

So then I use the digital zoom to 16X to see the locomotive working away. Note that we did pull a diesel locomotive with us for redundancy purposes. Fortunately, we didn't have to use it.

Excursion 4

Here we are in Glen wood picking up our pizza from a delivery truck.

Excursion 5

And here's the 2816 back on our siding at about 10:00 at night.

Excursion 6

Sunday morning, the crew had the train all cleaned up, fueled, & watered, ready for our trip to Wisconsin.

Excursion 8

Another 16X zoom of the locomotive.

Excursion 9

St. Croix River.

Excursion 10

Dan's wife, Dawn, coming to see us.

Excursion 11

The depot in Dresser, Wisconsin.

Excursion 12

St. Croix River on our way home.

The movie files below are each about 35 MB. So Don't click them unless you have high speed access to the Internet. Even with it, they'll each take 5 minutes to download & view.
