Christmas Letter - 2010

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

Dear Family and Friends,

As another year comes to a close, my life continues to unfold, although I think it’s beginning to slow down just a bit. I was in Pharr, TX, with my brother, Jim, until mid December, so my letter is later than usual

The biggest change this year was my decision to stop singing with the Great Northern Union chorus. It was a difficult decision, but I had sung for nearly 50 years. It was becoming too much of a burden and I decided that I didn’t need that pressure. So I took an extended leave of absence.

I’m continuing, at least for the next couple of years, as a judge of singing contests. In fact, this year I traveled to both Reno, Nevada, in March and Mason City, Iowa in early October. Next May, I’m judging in Reston, VA.

The month of February was spent in Pharr, Texas with my brother, Jim & his wife, Diane, at his park model. It was a cold winter even for south Texas, but was about 60 to 70 degrees warmer than Minnesota in February.

In late March, my brother, Mike & his wife, Mary, who have a beautiful "cabin" at Lake Tahoe, picked me up in Reno and I spent a week with them at Lake Tahoe & their home in Fremont, California. Had a wonderful time with them and their children and grandchildren.

My son, Dave has a cabin in northern Minnesota on East Battle Lake near Vining, Minnesota; I spent the 4th of July weekend up there with him as well as several other weekends.

My sister, Margaret, hosted a wonderful party with all my siblings honoring the memory of our father who died in August of 2009.

In late July, I drove with a friend to Missouri to attend the 4-day Barbershop Harmony Society judge certification school. I’m one of the senior members of my group and teach part of the school.

And I always enjoy the Minnesota State Fair which I attended 3 times this year.

In mid-October, my brother Jim called asking if I could come to Blue Earth to help him harvest his annual fall corn crop. Pictures of that week are on my family web site – http://roger-theresa.n0kfb.org. In fact all of my activities are chronicled on that site; including several blogs journaling various trips.

My brother Jim & I spent the first two weeks of December in Pharr, Texas opening up his park model for renters. We’ll also spend the whole month of February there.

My kids continue to take wonderful care of me. Every week, each of them takes me out to dinner for a wonderful evening of food & family. We still miss Theresa very much, but we have such wonderful memories of her that it’s becoming bearable.

Hoping this letter finds you and your family in good health and happiness during this holiday season and the coming year.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Roger
