2006 Barbershop Singing

Roger sings with the multi-year International Award winning Great Northern Union men's chorus, and occasionally in a quartet. Below are a variety of pictures of this year's activities. There are many events.

GNU at St. Andrew's

GNU again participated in the LOL Fall Chorus Contest and Theresa attended. We drove to Rochester on Friday afternoon and returned Saturday late afternoon. Theresa did fine and enjoyed the contest. Here's a picture of the chorus performing and a picture of Theresa with our friend, Marguerite, who recently had a knee replacement similar to what Theresa did a couple years ago.

On Thursday evening, October 5th, Roger's chorus put on a concert with the Choral Department at Lakeville South High School. Theresa was feeling well enough to attend and took numerous pictures. One sample is below.

On Saturday night, September 16, Theresa attended the concert of Roger's chorus who shared the stage with Cantus. She took this photo. Roger is now in the back row, second in from the left. Cantus is in front of the chorus.

On March 18, GNU hosted a concert including the Luther College Norsemen & the local Metropolitan Boys Choir. This was held again at St. Andrew's in Mahtomedi. The day began with  an afternoon of rehearsals and performances for each other, as well as "clinics" where fun learning sessions were held. A pizza supper capped it all off before the joint performance to a full house of an appreciative public.

=======================

Four wonderful guys that shared their talents with 6 Singing Valentine recipients.

This recipient just stood at her office door with big tears while they sang. Couldn't have been that bad, ... could it? ... They were tears of joy.

On Sunday, February 13, we had a wonderful brunch with members of the quartet that Roger sang in.

On Saturday, January 28, the chorus met at the Officers Club, Ft. Snelling, for good food and good company. Roger had the privilege of being the immediate past Barbershopper of the Year winner. They asked him to be the Master of Ceremonies this year; and he had the privilege of introducing this year's winner.

Before dinner, folks mingled . One of our guys actually picked out the lovely table settings (etc.)!

Roger at the podium, with some of the other previous winners, video camera going, the crowd awaits the suspense filled announcement.

Winner (director Pete Benson) this year, having received his plaque, proud and happy wife Rachael at his side.

On Sunday, January 15, the chorus sang at all 3 services at St. Andrews in Mahtomedi. This is a beautiful Danish modern church on a large, scenic country campus, set in the "far northeast areas" of Greater St. Paul, not far from White Bear Lake.  We recommend a visit any time to this congenial congregation.

The is singing an old spiritual. Daughter-in-law Dawn took this one. Tony, one of our soloists, is at the  microphone.  Roger is second row, second from our left.

Here's the chorus taken from the balcony. You get a glimpse of the pipes of the magnificent organ, the console of which is out of view to the left, and played masterfully by the talented son of our friend and former member of the chorus.

Here's a picture of the beautiful church with the organ pipes against the front wall and the chorus in the corner. Although actually visible from inside, the photos does not do it justice: some of the many majestic trees outside the tall windows on the hillside. This is a joyful and  large congregation. There are three services each Sunday, with a very active calendar. We will return there in March for a joint evening performance with the very professional and famed Luther Norsemen of Decorah, Iowa.
